New advances in chronic electrode design presented at Society for Neuroscience (SFN) annual meeting.

Desimone Lab Postdoctoral Associate Harbijit Sohal presented the ongoing development of a new electrode for chronic implantation at the Society for Neuroscience 2014 conference in Washington, DC.  The new electrode, dubbed the sinusoidal probe, replaces the rigid, straight shaft of traditional electrodes with a flexible, sinusoidal one.  When chronically implanted, the electrode can move with the brain, causing less damage to surrounding tissue and reducing gliosis in the implanted region.
